"In-the-know eyes are on Ireland, as designer-makers reinvigorate traditional crafts and local materials with contemporary élan. ... Waterford's historic association with crystal is being rejuvenated by J Hill's Standard, founded in 2014, through collaborations with contemporary designers such as Scholten & Baijings – each glass in the Dutch design duo's Elements series features an individual pattern of cuts. Italian designer Martino Gamper's Cuttings series takes a more sculptural approach to surface decoration, with distinctive cuts creating a strong, rugged effect.
Anike Discusses her inspiration behind the versatile glass tumbler and why collaboration is vital.
Image Interiors & Living published their wishlist for 2017. Guess who made the "cut"!
We are delighted to announance that the The Secant Wall Light, which was designed by Daniel Rybakken won a Wallpaper* Design Award - Best Colada Parlour.
"Handmade in Waterford by master craftsmen, these cut-crystal glasses combine craft and heritage to useful effect."
"Anike Tyrrell, founder and creative director of J. HILL's Standard explains how the concept for the brand came about. "It struck me that there was potential to revive mouth-blown and hand-cut glass for a new user who would appreciate the time and skill involved in hand-making glass." Their goal is to create functional pieces, which are usable and accessible."
The Secant Wall Light, which was designed by Daniel Rybakken is showing as part of "ELEKTRA LUX", at the Carwan Gallery, Beirut.
Opening October 6th 2016 at 6pm.
Exhibition open until September 20th 2016.
For the entertainer: From J Hill's Standard's Cuttings series, this lead crystal whiskey glass is designed for frequent use. Conceived by Italian-born, London-based designer Martino Gamper, the Cuttings collection is recognisable for the deep and distinct markings. We can neither endorse nor discourage 'frequent use,' we can only say it's for the father with good taste.

Makers & Brothers At Home is an exciting new iteration in our ongoing story that will see us carefully populate a quiet wing of a glorious Georgian pile. Amongst the traces of a refined yet dilapidated interior there will be a select gathering of some of our favourite local and international brands from the worlds of homeware, beauty, fashion and food. The fires will be lighting, the shelves stocked high and super seasonal food on offer from our favorite café - Bibi's. It will be our take on a more quiet, human approach to shopping in Dublin this winter.
November 28th to December 23rd.
Wallpaper* and property developers EcoWorld Ballymore co-hosted a waterside party in east London to launch a new installation inspired by the Wardian cases popular with botanical explorers during the 19th century. Wallpaper* collaborated with landscape architects Camlins to create Wardian E14, a glasshouse installation that references the themes, textures, ambiance and aesthetics of EcoWorld Ballymore’s spectacular Wardian London development, currently under construction at Canary Wharf.
The Souvenir Project was commissioned by Irish Design 2015 earlier this year. Produced by Makers & Brothers - "From the outset we wanted to create a project with meaning and depth that softly spoke of our time and place. We looked to explore new ground as well as revisiting old. The aim was to investigate the thinking behind the term souvenir and what it might mean today in an Irish context. For Makers & Brothers it has been about delicately filtering all this thinking through the local context and embracing the subtleties of the land, weather, histories and people."
Kalak is an exciting new launch on the vodka market. Patrick Shelley, the entrepreneur behind the vodka, worked with leading Irish Mixologist, Oisin Davis on a unique range of cocktails using locally sourced ingredients and J.HILL's Standard glasses. The cocktails are restrained and beautiful and we were thrilled to be part of the creative process.

Nilufar Gallery will open its new showroom with a great private event: a dinner inside the 1500sq.m. of the store housing the great collection of historical and contemporary design assembled by gallery-owner Nina Yashar in 30 years of activity. More than 140 guests will dine in a unique atmosphere due to the strong contrast of the architectural project by Massimiliano Locatelli-CLS Architetti: 3 floors of metal frames inspired by the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, housing novelties and the great classics of the gallery. The room is articulated by wings and curtains, as in a theatre, starting from the central stage and the imposing, 6 metre long brass work by artist Leonor Antunes.
Dinner will be served in the wide central hallway furnished with author's tables and chairs, ever differing one from the other. The menu, created by Martino Gamper with Corrado Calza Food & Co, is a progression of dishes with Mediterranean tastes and Middle Eastern conviviality, served in Richard Ginori's chinaware from the Thirties and matched with 19th century napkins A 2006 Grand Vintage, one of the best proposals in the rich Moet & Chandon range, will be poured in precious glasses made of 'Cuttings' crystal by J. HILL's Standard, designed by Martino Gamper.
Location: Nilufar Depot: Monday 13th April Milan

We are very honoured to be the recipient of a coveted Wallpaper magazine Design Award. Our Cuttings tumbler designed by Martino Gamper has won the 'Best Whiskey Glass' accolade and is featured in the February Awards issue of the magazine. Many Thanks to Wallpaper magazine for the recognition!
From December onward our stateside friends will be able to admire and buy J.Hill's Standard crystal from the wonderful Atelier Courbet shop and gallery in New York. Atelier Courbet is dedicated to telling the stories of a curated collection of craft producers and we are very pleased to be amongst them.
We have long been fans of Makers & Brothers; an online store from Ireland that offers up an excellent array of everyday design and craft. So it is fitting that our Cuttings series of glassware by Martino Gamper is currently available at Makers & Brothers' Tiny Department Store in Dublin. The pop-up shop is full of great local products and is open until December 24th.

Our first stockist in London is one of the cities most established and respected retailers of contemporary design: TwentyTwentyOne. From September, the Cuttings series of J.Hill's Standard crystal can be bought from either the TwentyTwentyOne shop on Islington's Upper Street or the TwentyTwentyOne online store.
We celebrated the launch of J.Hill's Standard during the London Design Festival with a fabulous evening of food, friends, fine whiskey and cut crystal. Martino Gamper and Francis Upritchard hosted our intimate evening at their Hackney studio where we sat down to an exciting supper prepared by Arabeschi di Latte. We were joined by old and new friends for a warm and atmospheric evening of celebration – our first crystal collections were put to good use. Teeling Whiskey, a wonderful Irish craft whiskey producer, helped the evening along nicely.
J.Hill's Standard was introduced to the world during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. We were very honoured to show our wares at the much celebrated Spazio Rosanna Orlandi where we received a warm welcome from the international press and design watchers. Grazie.
